Welcome to the website Atelier Confino :

History and actuality of ocean-liners:  Saint-Nazaire is the birth city of ” France ” and many other prestigious liners. This is why the city hall decided to create a Museum, to pay tribute to them. But Saint-Nazaire also had to shelter German submarines during the last world war for which the Nazis built an enormous bunker in order to protect them.

Remained indestructible and unused, the Mayor, bravely, decided to transform this tragic vestige into a cultural place. In this place, François Confino and François Seigneur shared out the two immense spaces they were allocated, one treated as the exterior of the liner, the” Grand Large ” and the other being the reconstitution of the interior of the liner, from the engine room or the hold to the commander’s bridge, not forgetting the dining room, hairdressing salon or the many cabins. This is how the approach to the scenography, museography and architecture gave a very homogeneous staging concept.

Inaugural exhibition for the reopening of the Centre Pompidou enrolled in the official celebration program of year 2000 by France, the exhibition ” Le Temps Vite” marks the reopening of Beaubourg. This reflection on the time that passes by, the time that stops, the speeding up of time, the time taking its own time gathers 400 works chosen under the direction of Daniel Soutif, exhibition commissioner in a translucent scenography accompanying as a gentle mist and in humility, paintings, sculptures, photos, films and musical works. It punctuates the passing time since the exhibition ” Archéologie de la ville ” other reflection on time that Confino (and Co) had conceived with the New York Group Haus-Rucker Inc., for the inauguration of the centre in 1977. The wandering leads it to Rome and Barcelona. For once (!) our scenographic approach was discreet and humble.

Los Angeles, USA, 2006-08 museographic and scenographic project for the new galleries of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County Project. After the ” Master Plan “, The agency is currently working on the new museographic and scenographic conception of the ensemble of the galleries and especially, at the moment, on the dinosaur ones, of the cenozoïc era and on a space explaining all the researches led ” back-stage “.

End 2012, Samsung invites to conceive with the LLTT Studio of Turin a very innovating Pavilion for the Design week in spring 2013 in Milan. The LLTT Studio and l’Atelier Confino conceive very poetic and totally interactive projections; Reality and Potentiality intimately interlock. The Pavilion wins Design Grand Prix.

Our inspiration is strongly influenced by the book of Guillaume Duprat and we wished to develop with our own initiative a grand exhibition that will reflect the content of these myths, legends and beliefs about the shape of universe. For now, this project remains in our boxes, but we hope to convince, one day, a Science Museum or any other institution to embark upon this adventure.

The project is the fruit of the competition for the arrangement of the Camp des Milles that saw so many people vowed to deportation and death. Yet another project whose very original approach played tricks on us. We wanted to create a very big dialog between the building itself (old cement Lafarge industry) and its tragic story. After brushing up against nomination (according to rumour leaking from the jury), we were told that we were second.
